And yes, ...Hey Kitten,

I didn't love Fergus either. And yes, it did look a lot like everything else David Shannon has done. However, the rules for the award are that you can not compare the book in your hand to the author's collected works or anything else everyone has published in all time. You have to forget all other books and only think about what came out this year. That being said, I doubt that it will win the real award.Born Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02503046313888211339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34501613.post-1168977106909362282007-01-16T11:51:00.000-08:002007-01-16T11:51:00.000-08:00Hi Kyra,We hosted a mock Coretta Scott King (only ...Hi Kyra,

We hosted a mock Coretta Scott King (only the illustrator award) because other libraries in our metro areas had already claimed Printz, Newbery and Caldecott, and it is what was left. This year we had an actual member of the real committee come and help us understand the award a lot better.Born Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02503046313888211339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34501613.post-1168894892421845502007-01-15T13:01:00.000-08:002007-01-15T13:01:00.000-08:00To be honest, I didn't love Fergus. I kind of feel like that particular line of Shannon's has been played out, that style of his ridden hard and ready to retire. it's just like the first David, which was justly honoured for being something new and fresh, so I actually hope the committee doesn't go this way.kittenpiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05215443551546036909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34501613.post-1168775226925849782007-01-14T03:47:00.000-08:002007-01-14T03:47:00.000-08:00Hello - Born LibrarianI'm a first-time children's ...Hello - Born Librarian

I'm a first-time children's book author. Yours is the first one I've seen to mock the Coretta Scott King awards.

What motivated the Kansas City libraries to host the Coretta Scott King awards?

Thank you -

Kyra Hicks
author, Martha Ann's Quilt for Queen Victoria
www.blackthreads.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
